Romantic Destinations for Couple Travels

While we appreciate the celebration of love that happens in February, we strongly believe it should be shown throughout the year rather than reserved for one particular day.  Travel not only gives us a break from the office, but it also allows us to connect with each other!  Today we’re sharing some of the most romantic destinations we have been together!  Honestly, any place can be romantic due to the opportunity to spend time together, but these places really turn it up a notch!

 1. Safari in Africa

There is something about being in the middle of the bush with the one you love.  Falling asleep to the sounds of wildlife outside was definitely romantic.  Daily game drives and spotting wildlife was such a fun way to bond.  Turn up the romance by getting a camp with a private plunge pool and in-room massages.   The Dulini Lodge was such an intimate property and the staff really went above and beyond to make this already romantic setting even more special!

2. Beaches of El Nido, Philippines

If you are anything like us, we had been lusting over the photos of this destination for months.  When we had the opportunity to travel here, we immediately jumped on it!  The raw, natural beauty created such a romantic destination for couple travel.  We turned it up a notch by hiring a private boat for the day to explore the endless coves and lagoons.  Such a romantic experience and would be the perfect destination for a honeymoon or anniversary trip.  The El Nido Resort properties offer so many ways to add extra romance to your trip including private beach dinners, private tours, and massages.

3. Spa Resort in Costa Rica

Within minutes of arriving at Nayara Springs, you instantly see why it’s been named a top luxury hotel.  Not only that, but Conde Nast named it the best spa in the world!  With praise like that, we immediately wasted no time in booking treatments.  Appointments can book fast so it’s important to do this early in your stay.  The treatment rooms are open-air spaces complemented with hot tubs and private showers.  Such a romantic destination that blends pampering with the nature of Costa Rica!

4. Under the Stars in the Atacama Desert, Chile

One of the most shining skies we have ever seen has been in the Atacama Desert of Chile.  It is so romantic to lay on loungers with a drink of bubbles in hand while enjoying the peace and quiet.  The Alto Atacama even has a star gazing area with lay flat chairs for you to admire the starts.  Shooting stars are in abundance and you will be in awe of this beauty!

5. In a hut in Bora Bora

One of our travel goals was to stay in one of the over-water huts in Bora Bora.  Being that we couldn’t afford it for our honeymoon, we had a goal of traveling there for an anniversary.  We were lucky that we didn’t have to wait long and celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary at the Hilton Nui!  It was incredibly romantic to have a hut over the water with your own slice of the ocean. We literally only left the room for breakfast and dinner.  We soaked up every ounce of sunshine we could each day.  In addition, enjoying the sunset from the deck of the hut makes for an incredibly romantic experience while you are there.

6. Trekking to Machu Picchu

I don’t know about you, but I typically don’t equate strenuous activity with romance.  Truth be told, this trip to hike to Machu Picchu was Brian’s dream and I decided to be a good sport.  Turns out supporting each other during a very strenuous activity and celebrating the small milestones along the way can be incredibly romantic.  We became closer as we cheered each other on and keep each other moving.  While sleeping in tents isn’t exactly luxurious, it was romantic and we connected in a way we had not before as we experienced the trek together.

7. Dinner with a view in Santorini, Greece

Santorini is known to be a very romantic destination and the views certainly live up to the hype.  We loved watching the sunset from our room’s balcony on the cliff.  Several nights we would watch the sunset with a deck of cards and bottle of bubbly.  One of our favorite moments was outdoor dining as the sun went down at Above Blue Suites.  It was an incredible meal admiring the sunset. The staff even provides scarves and blankets to keep you warm as the temperatures fall.  One of the most romantic destinations for a couple’s dining experience!

8.  Savoring the Northern Lights in Iceland

While the cold temperatures give you a good excuse to cuddle, experiencing the beauty of the northern lights is such a romantic experience!  Standing below a sky dancing with vivid colors with the one you love is an incredible experience!  We loved them so much in Iceland that we are hoping to visit more places to spot them again soon.

9. Amongst the Wineries in Italy

It’s no secret that we love wine….and bourbon and bubbles!  Wineries provide such a romantic setting!  We love having a tasting but love the part of getting a glass while enjoying a good view even more.  We can totally understand why many couples choose wineries as their wedding destinations.  It’s such a romantic destination and enjoyed with a glass in hand is the best!

10. 360 Views of Sydney

One of our early travel experiences was climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge.  Standing on top of this monster structure was such a romantic experience!  This was the first time we truly appreciated the moments of travel and it was here that we vowed to ensure we made time for it in our marriage despite other distractions.  The bridge itself may not make many lists of romantic destinations but for us, it will always hold special memories.

Bonus – Capture the Moment

Once you experience these moments, don’t forget to document them!  On multiple occasions, we’ve hired local photographers in the destinations we’ve traveled to in order to get those dreamy Instagram photos!  Once you get those photos it’s a great idea to share your couple moments on social media like Instagram or for your own personal photo books and video slideshows.  Using sweet, romantic captions to accompany your travel memories is the perfect way to document your couple’s trip!
