8 Travel Experience Days for Couples

It’s no secret that we are big fans of travel. What you may not know is that we celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary this year and strongly believe travel is one of our keys to marriage success! Travel enables us to have deeper connection and time to really connect, especially when we have long periods of working the 7-5 grind with weeks of business travel. Perhaps that is why a honeymoon is such a popular addition to the wedding experience and we certainly weren’t going to let it end there. We strongly encourage all couples to consistently make time to connect and grow in their marriage. These 8 travel experience days for couples will provide some inspiration to help you plan your next couple’s trip! Check out our 8 travel experiences we shared last year.

BOOK A NIGHT IN A LUXURY HOTEL

Whether you are on the road or close to home, there is no better way to break out of your routine than to book a luxury hotel experience. While it can be costly, reserving just 1 night of your trip or a random evening away close to home is a special travel experience for couples that won’t break the bank. Being pampered by an attentive hotel staff, staying in posh surroundings, taking advantage of high-end amenities and spoiling yourself at the spa are all the reasons a luxury hotel tops the list. The excitement of being in a different world and experiencing it together is so romantic. We have quite a few favorites but The Peninsula Tokyo and El Nido Pangulasian Island top the list as our favorites. This one has become a staple in both our travel itineraries and for short breaks.

BOOK AN ADVENTEROUS MEAL

We both love to eat! We find the whole dining experience to be such a romantic thing in itself. Being able to experience a hard-to-snag reservation, a new cuisine or popular chef is really exciting for the both of us. There are also amazing dining experiences you can book when traveling such as private dinner on the beach or in your room. Having a candlelit table while enjoying a great bottle of wine and decadent meal is extraordinary. We also challenge you to put away your cell phone during the experience and TALK! It’s a novel idea but take time to really connect through verbal communication. When we were in Japan, we experienced a traditional dinner in a private tea house. It was such a romantic experience to share a new cuisine together in the privacy of our own place.

TAKE A HIKE

This may seem obvious to some but do something you don’t normally do together. Truth-be-told, Amanda is not very outdoorsy. Every once in a while we will schedule a hike which is a fun experience to have with each other. At times it can be challenging so the reinforcement you give the other person is a great way to connect as a couple. Typically the views are so romantic, especially if you schedule it around sunset.

WINE TASTING EXPERIENCE

I don’t know what it is about wineries but we find them so darn romantic! We love having private wine tastings in gorgeous settings. When we travel we will typically reserve at least 1 day to experience the wineries of the region. One of our favorite ways to experience it was by renting bicycles in Hawk’s Bay, NZ. We have also randomly stopped at wineries we pass on highways during road trips. Lastly, have one at home! You can cover up bottles in paper and taste together to discover your favorite. We have even arranged couples date nights with friends, everyone brings a bottle and guess your favorite. Such a fun way to have a romantic evening!

SET SAIL TOGETHER

For those without a budget, a private sailing experience is a way to go! Honestly, we can’t afford this option all the time but we do like to book small group tours when we can. Santorini, Greece had the most amazing experience sailing the caldera. If you are sailing with a small group, we have found that the boats are typically big enough that you can find a secluded area to relax together so you are still connecting. Sunset cruises are easy to find in areas on the water.  Toasting with a glass of champagne while watching the sun go down is incredibly romantic! For a lower budget option, rent paddleboards or a kayak. You will find that being out on the open water together give you time to work together to keep moving and is a fun couple experience.

CHOOSE A ROOM WITH A KILLER BATHTUB

Be honest, how many of you take baths at home? If you are like us, the answer is a big fat zero. Our tub is really more of a decorative corner in our bathroom. While on vacation, that totally changes! Give us those comfy hotel robes and load up the tub with bubbles. Some properties will even decorate the bathtub for a really romantic experience. One of our favorite tubs was in our room at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba. They had several bathtub packages that you could get for an evening including rose petals, scrubs, wine etc. It was such a romantic setting and something we certainly don’t do very often.

EXPERIENCE AN ADRENALINE PUMPING ACTIVITY

One way to really connect is to experience a new activity together. But not just any activity, make sure it’s adrenaline pumping! We find that the nerves leading up to the activity help us connect as we coax the other’s confidence of doing it. I’ll be honest, 99% of the time it’s Brian coaxing Amanda! Then there is the experience of actually doing it and the memories that you can reflect on after it is over. One of the ways we’ve done this was jumping into Devil’s Pool at the top of Victoria Falls. It was heart-pumping, to say the least, but one of our favorite couple experiences! Next on our list is paragliding and Brian is trying to talk me into skydiving, he has a lot of coaxing to do!

HAVE A DINE-AROUND

Have you ever heard of a dine-around? It’s something popular with neighbors who move to each persons house for a new course. Start with cocktails at one, next house is appetizers, third house is the main and fourth is dessert. For a couples experience to connect together, create your own dine-around with restaurants. We will do this while traveling or in our own city by going to 4 different restaurants and having a course at each! One spot that this is great to enjoy is at the Venetian in Las Vegas. With a wide array of restaurants, you can try many by creating a dine-around. It’s also a different type of experience day for couples by hopping around to various places.

Hope this provides some inspiration for your next couple’s experience. We love sharing our tips to connect as a couple. Share any other activities you enjoy doing to rekindle the romance in the comments!
