After we choose a destination and book the flights, the next major decision is to decide on a hotel. Choosing where to stay in Tokyo was quite the challenge due to the number of options. Reuters estimates that there are over 100,000 hotel rooms in the city! The best way to narrow down the options and ultimately decide is to make a list of all the top amenities you want and see if a property provides them. Check out this list of 6 reasons ANA InterContinental Tokyo gets our vote as the top hotel when choosing where to stay in Tokyo!
When choosing where to stay in Tokyo, location was a top consideration. The city is so large that we wanted to stay in an area that allowed us to easily walk to some attractions while also being close to the amazing subway systems. ANA InterContinental Tokyo provided both! It is located in the Ark Hills area, with Akasaka, Roppongi, and Kasumigaseki close by. Additionally, Tameika-sanno station is less than a 3-minute walk from the hotel making it the perfect location!
2. City Views
We booked a premier level room that offers both sweeping city views and guaranteed to be on the top floors! There are 37 floors in the hotel and we were quite pleased with our room on the 31st floor. Enjoying the gorgeous views in the plush robes provided with a cup of in-room coffee in hand was the perfect way to start our day!
3. Club Lounge
If the amazing views from the premier room weren’t enough, the Club InterContinental Tokyo located on the 35th floor offered some spectacular views as well. The club lounge was renovated in 2009 and offers à la carte breakfast from their executive chef, an afternoon tea, and a cocktail reception each evening.
The à la carte breakfast offered both Western and Asian options. We loved exploring the cuisine of the area with the Asian options. Each morning was a surprise as we would order something new on the menu and wait in anticipation for our food’s arrival.
In addition to the made-to-order menu, there was also a cold buffet with a wide variety of options to accompany our breakfast. During the hours of 2 pm to 4 pm, an afternoon tea service is offered with a nice variety of finger foods to accompany the beverages.
The cocktail reception begins at 5:30 and lasts for 2 hours. During this time a wide selection of sake, wines, whiskey, beers, and spirits are offered. There is also a small buffet of finger foods to accompany your aperitif. The Club InterContinental Tokyo definitely delivers the perfect trifecta in its offerings throughout the day.
Pools are always a tough feature to find in properties within a big city such as Tokyo. When choosing where to stay in Tokyo during the summer months, a pool can be an important feature. The ANA InterContinental Tokyo offers the garden pool on the 4th floor with a 20-meter outdoor pool as well as a separate 6-meter children’s pool on the deck.
Not only does the garden pool offer a refreshing, relaxing break during the summer months but also amazing views of the surrounding city!
5. Comfortable Bed in a Spacious Room
Space is a luxury in the largest cities in the world and Tokyo is no exception. The rooms at the ANA InterContinental Tokyo offer spacious rooms with large, comfortable beds, a seating area, and desk. In addition to daily service of the room, there is also a turn-down service each evening. In a property of this size, it is quite a treat to get the room serviced twice a day!
6. Restaurants & Bars
There are 11 restaurants and bars located on the property. One of the best dining options is the two Star Michelin Fine Dining restaurant, Pierre Gagnaire. It is located on the 36th floor and offers award-winning French cuisine against spectacular views of Tokyo for both lunch and dinner.
Additional dining options include an International Buffet as Cascade Cafe, Traditional Japanese Kaiseki at Unkai Restaurant, Traditional Teppanyaki at Teppanyaki Akasaka, Cantonese cuisine at Karin Restaurant, sushi and sashimi bar at Sushi Kenzan and char-grilled steaks and seafood at The Steakhouse. Needless to say, with the variety of dining options, you will not go hungry!
There are 3 bars and cocktail lounges to satisfy all thirsts! MIXX Bar, located on the 36th floor, offers cocktails and food overlooking Tokyo. Da Vinci offers over 200 whiskeys sourced from around the globe!
Last but not least, my personal favorite, The Champagne Bar! The menu contains a large selection Perrier Jouet champagne by both the bottle and glass! In addition, the bar offers a “Champagne Social” which are 2 hours of free-flow plans. There are various plans that offer different types of champagnes and tapas for the time period. Such a unique offering for the champagne lover like myself!
Overall ANA InterContinental Tokyo gets our top vote on where to stay in Tokyo. The property has all the luxury amenities we like when traveling. The views are some of the best in the entire city and overall it’s a relaxing, comfortable stay. Without a doubt, we will return to the ANA InterContinental Tokyo on our next trip to the city! This property delivers an ultimate luxury experience.
